Daichi’s last meal.

Had a great last meal with Daichi last night. In-N-Out is his favorite food in the USA he told me, he had a burger for lunch and a burger for dinner, “that’s the American way”. Now he’s off to Japan. See you soon in Tokyo holmes!

I don’t even play baseball anymore.

What is another moment captured? Well the one below reminds me to always trust my gut feeling, you know….listen to yourself. The other day when I landed in Las Vegas for a few hours to speak at Canyon Springs High School I decided last minute to a taxi from the airport. The picture that you see above is about 1min 20secs into our ride when I was still friends with the driver. Shortly thereafter I decided to let him and my mobile phone convince me where I was going instead of going where I knew I needed to. I won’t tell you all the details of our extravaganza because I refuse to write out curse words but 2 drivers & $60 later I ended up speaking to a class room of kids who’s energies & appreciations made the experience worth while. The composition of this photo to me is nothing short of amazing.  Thanks Scott Regan for helping me make memories.

You could speak a sentence about someone who makes others feel miserable, you could write a book about someone who makes others smile, and you could speak volumes for someone like Daichi Ito. Daichi is the type of person who doesn’t seem to know how to frown or how not to enjoy life, he has an excitement and appreciation for nearly everyone & everything around him. It’s been really dope to hang around this guy. Now as he returns to Tokyo after 7 years of Los Angeles, I would like to ask that you would all wish him well at either of the links below. DAICHI!!!! You will be missed holmes!

On top of the world.

What world do you live in?  Sometimes the one we all share gets a bit intense for me so I hop back into my own.  Really, that’s how I grew up….inside my mind, thinking, dreaming and maturing myself one thought at a time.  I have told that story before and I will tell it for a long time because I believe it’s a great way to go about things.  When I think of my life in the last few years as I’ve really had the opportunity since being a teenager to propel it into a 3 dimensional dream…..well that’s exactly what I’ve done.  I’m super thankful to be able to tell this story as well as showcase it with amazing original visuals like the one given above by my favorite visual maker and parallel player The 13thWitness.

It’s really cool how sometimes allowing yourself moments of distraction will prepare for times of motivation and creativity. Cheeseburgers, milkshakes & friends….simplicity wins again.

My friend Yue Wu.

Talented, creative, and cool people are all fine & great but when a simple virtue like kindness outshines them all…well then it seems as though all the others are uniquely enhanced. If I had to imagine or describe one characteristic that makes my friend Yue of the coolest people to be around, I would have to choose kindness. The reason why I’m writing about this is because some of you may or may not have seen his work function as part of the recent Wham Bam Thank You M’amm art show in Hong Kong & when you saw it you may have realized how ridiculously ill this kid is. So now I am simply providing an outlet to inform you how great it feels to see another person that is the real deal, continue to succeed at doing what they love. Yue did my first original Maestro Knows logo which is at the top of this screen right now and I also have a more in depth look into his life that I shot in Paris and am in the process of cutting up right now! See you soon.

My “wanna be like Mike” shoes.

I haven’t always been into tennis shoes. When I was young all I use to think about was how great Mike was, I never even really knew he had his own shoes until he stopped playing ball, I was always more interested in him and Pippen…man I thought Scottie Pippen was the coolest name, he had 33, Mike had 23, those were the days! I wonder if in 20 years they will remake Lebron’s and people will line up for them? Regardless, I think it’s pretty cool that aside from these shoes just looking really dope, they make me reminisce back to being a lil guy.

Defining inspiration.

I don’t like when people overuse words because to me they lose the essence of their true meaning. The word inspiration is one example that falls victim to this problem. I first met this kid Hassan through the internet, I believe it was on Skype, he showed me these sample tennis shoes he was making and I thought “oh, that’s pretty neat”. (more…)

Patrick Martinez is Los Angeles art.

I love Los Angeles, that’s one of the main reasons why I started my show. Every time I meet someone who’s living & working in LA that’s talented & represents the city well, it’s really refreshing and really exciting. I titled this post Patrick Martinez is Los Angeles art because when I look at his work it feels exactly like a certain perspective of our city. Get ready for some further documentation coming up soon! (more…)

Everything happens for a reason.

On my last day in NY city I got to take out some creative energy & attach it to a garment for myself. As I was trying to think of what I could do to make this piece something different than anything else I have, I figured why not put my thoughts on it.  As I sifted through my mobile phone, I found a quote from my (not so favorite website ever) Twitter and decided it was the right one for me. The quote reads… “Whether we comprehend it or not, everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it’s for a larger purpose than just your mind to understand”. Ironically enough after the plane ride home, the next day I found myself in the exact situation of my mind not comprehending why I left my computer on the airplane.

Sometimes the moments you look back upon appear exactly how they felt. This photo was taken after a recent gathering at Reed Space in NYC that me & the kid (@13thWitness) who took this photo had. When I look at this picture I see people who are known & respected for doing what they love…that is an accomplishment to be cherished and nurtured into even further achievement. @JeffStaple @JoshMadden @JoelMadden
